2013...
It marks the year I graduate high school and start on my college life..
The year I become partially legal and have some power of authorisation for certain legal procedures..
The year I stepped out of my comfort zone..away from home..away from my parent's shelter and protective wings...
The year I went and took a big exam(A levels) alone without a send off from my parents...
The year I had to start being very independent and care for my personal necessities such as food, laundry and transportation...
The year I grew up and became more patient and less hot tempered...
The year I mature in terms of mentality...
The year I found a strong bond of friendship...
The year I shared my heart with someone else... a serious relationship with a special someone...
Looking back I think, whoa... a lot can surely happen in just a year..
Turning 18 does make a change in you especially when you leave home for studies.
No parents to watch your every move, you have the ultimate freedom to do anything you like without getting found out by your parents.
From here you have to practice a lot of self-control and judge if something is right or wrong. You have to be strong and not get influenced easily by some ways of your peers that do not sit right.
The decisions you make now have greater impacts on your life. The step you take now affects the options available for the next move you can make. What do I want to do with life? What course should I take? Which school should I apply to?
What you decide now will decide your future.
Sometimes I think back to the times when I was young. Innocent and carefree. Not a thought for the world. Every decision decided by my parents.
However as a child we often demand for greater freedom, wanting to be heard, wanting to decide on certain things. But we were often cut down by adults with the ever so common phrase "You're still young. Wait till you're older. What do children know."
And now with the power to decide, we are often challenged by the decisions that we make and also put in a great dilemma when the options are not in our favour.
I guess with great power, comes with great responsibility.
However so far so good. 2013 has been great. I look forward to 2014 being even greater :)
